This joint venture company was established in 1982 between Johnson & Higgins and Malaysian investors. The company started operations with an office in Kuala Lumpur in 1983 to serve corporate Malaysia, and subsequently opened a branch office in Penang in 1991. As a result of the acquisition of Johnson & Higgins in 1997 and, later, the Sedgwick Group in 1998 by Marsh & McLennan, this company became the sole representative of Marsh Inc.

The company's name was eventually changed to Marsh Insurance Brokers (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd in 2000. Since inception, Marsh Malaysia has grown from strength to strength and is now one of the leading risk management consultants and insurance brokers in Malaysia.
